    Thanks Andrea,

Security software is vital and should be installed on all devices, regardless of their manufacturer. It's a common misconception that Apple products don't need extra protection, and although they have a better base level of protection, they are still vulnerable.

Hi, my son has been given a second hand laptop that has been wiped and is like new but with no protection/anti-virus or parental controls.

He's 13 years old. I have used the talk talk parental controls on the modem in the past but it doesn't suit us as a family as the rest of us then can't access any socail media.

I would like protection fro his laptop that stops him looking at over 18 stuff and bad youtube videos etc but that will allow him and us to use some social media.

Also, I have AVG on my laptop, is that enough?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi niftythrifty33,

You should definitely install some anti-virus software, it won't affect any parental controls but is vital for security.

As you mention, internet providers make parental controls available, there should be settings that allow you to make certain sites viewable by putting them on a list of acceptable sites.

With regards to your laptop, we never like to describe measures as being 'enough', but having AVG installed is a good start. Remember to keep all of your software up to date and be careful online to ensure that you're secure.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Best,
