Duplicate Lasting Power of Attorney

Options
I was granted financial LPA for my mum in May 2012. She has not lost mental capacity but has become housebound and we talked today and decided that it is time to enact it so i can go to the bank and get cash for her and pay the bills for her carers etc., However on returning home tonight i cannot find the document anywhere, and i moved house recently so it may be lost in the move. My question is can i get a duplicate and where from - otherwise i don't see the bank agreeing to anything we might want to set up and i will need it in the future anyway.

You can get certified copies of the original but of course you need the original to do that.
I don't think you can get a duplicate of the original which is why the usual advice is never to let the original out of your sight and only send certified copies to any financial institutions.
I think if your mum still has capacity you may need to get it done again. The OPG (Office of the Public Guardian) will be able to advise you.

If she is housebound you may want to consider a medical one as well, please do not assume that the financial one will cover anything medical because it does not, despite many a patient saying it does, in law, in does not.
  • If it was sent to the office of public guardian they can do you a copy, but they do charge. If you hadn't done that part of the process I can't think of an alternative to doing a new one.

Did you organise it through a firm of solicitors? It is worth asking in case they are holding the original for you.
  • thanks everyone - i will follow up your suggestions
