Am I missing something here? Airport Parking

Hi,

I am going on holibobs on the 17th of Feb and coming back on the 25th.

I wanted hotel and parking. I looked at the cost on the premier inn website and it prices it as £98.84 for Hotel stay and parking. I noticed in the small print it says your first night is it the airport but after that you have to move it to the South terminal long stay.

So I looked at the hotel and parking separately and the total price is £72! Am I missing something here or are they just trying to take the p155 out of me???

Here's the evidence -

No you're not missing anything, and yes they are taking the PI55.
I noticed the same at Manchester Airport recently. The Premier Inn with parking (which is a 5-10min shuttle transfer away) was £165 for 16 days, where as the hotel on it's own was £35, and the parking is £58 for meet and greet so £93 total, and £72 difference!!

The reason for this is because the park and fly price does not take into account the current sale - they're not taking the p*ss, just that the inclusive price is based on normal room rates.

That would be true if it were a sale. The saver rate is their standard model. Besides, it's their site, it should take into account everything. The only price they can't control is the parking and that has no discount on it.

The current rate is a sale one, it has been advertised as such. The non sale saver rate is nearly twice that amount. If you look at prices outside the sale period (this week, for example), you'll see the normal prices.

The parking price fluctuates all the time and so do the room rates

I dont see why they are taking the p..., they are setting a price to make a profit, thats what businesses do

you have shopped around and found the best price others wont

It's their site and it's their price. Surely they can give the best price.

They give a range of packages and prices and it up to the customer to pick the one that suits their needs the most. Retailers often have several offers on at the same time.

I would agree that in this case that the inclusive parking deal isn't very good value but I have stopped at the Premier Inn Gatwick North several times on park + fly deals and it has been worth it.
  • Apart from the reasons above... I have used the PI service at Manchester and the price includes meet & greet parking which is less hassle therefore more expensive as opposed to the usual long stay park and transfers. Not sure if this is the same at Gatwick?
  • It does depend on dates and exactly how many nights parking you need - last year when we went away there was quite a saving.

If you book separately don't forget quidco for the parking!

They will know only too well how many people just book at the rate PI quote without shopping around. They are a business and are obliged to charge as much as they can. They probably have data analyses that show how much capacity they fill at the full price and they then need to attract more business for remaining capacity, with lower prices.
