I'm sure you are already aware that although Pontins call it Southport their camp is actually in Ainsdale, about 3 miles from Southport Town Centre/Sea Front.
It's a bit of a drag without a car. If you need to use public transport then the best way is by train. Half mile walk to Ainsdale Station then 3 stops from Ainsdale to Southport on Merseyrail. It's a good service with upto 4 trains an hour.0 -
Hi There Just A Quick Tip To Anyone Thinking Of Going To Southport Pontins, My Friend Went Last Week And Said It Was The Holiday From Hell! Filthy Camp, Accomodation And Entertainment Rubbish, She Said The Beach Was Just A Mudbath. As I Gave Her The Holiday,(ity Was A Freebie From Past Promotion) I Feel Largely Responsible, And We Are In The Process Of Complaining To Pontins. Hey I Know Theyre In Financial Difficulty But Surely This Breaches Their Contract To The Holidaymaker, They Are Not Fulfilling Their Commitment. I Dont Expect Luxury For A Freebie But Surely Cleanliness Is A Basic Human Right?? I Would Appreciate Anyones Help Or Comments On This Situation As I Feel Pontins Are Breaking Many Rules And Posing A Public Health Hazard With The Disgusting State Of Their Sites.0

Got to fight Pontins ground here i'm afraid!, It isnt that bad. You pay for the grade of accomodation that you stay in. Its not filthy. It is not a hotel, it is a children's holiday camp. I have been to Pontins five times this year and have a booking to go back at new year. We usually always go to Prestatyn although have been to Southport. The children are entertained day and night and you stay in a CHALET this is a cheap form of accomodation. You can pay extra for one of their Club chalets, which I would recommend in winter months as they are a bit warmer due tot he double glazing and the wall heaters are free (because you dont pay for electric in club grade accomodation). In summer months the budget chalets are find, you all get a bed and basic facilities such as kitchen and bathroom.
An alternative option is to try Haven or British holidays. You can pay over the odds for a top of the range caravan, but you will have to walk miles to get to the amenities because the camps are so big and need hundreds to spend in arcades because there isnt as much free activities for kids.
Pontins are very good when in comes to their complaints procedure. If you have a valid complaint they will deal with it appropriately.
Sorry for going off on one but what do people want for their money nowadays!!0 -

You have made some really strong allegations of breach of contract in the above post, whilst admitting that you in fact passed your FREE holiday onto someone else! Breach of contract on both parts dont you think.
A public health hazard with the disgusting state of their site, I think perhaps you should visit it yourself before you make allegations like that, in all the times I have been I rarely saw rubbish on the ground, there are hundreds of staff cleaning all the time
OMG.........I am well off on one now0 -
In reply to the previous post; The price of the holiday is irrelevant; if I went to Asda and bought some 9p value beans and some 50p heinz beans I wouldnt expect the value ones to be mouldy and sub standard! YES i agree wholeheartedly that you get what you pay for and I am a regular visitor to Haven sites and stay in the cheapest accomodation every time (which is tatty to the max but clean). Pontins need to get their act together, I have been myself to Prestatyn a few years back and all was ok thought the chalets were inferior to similar grades at haven then. Pontins are about 10 years behind their competitors and I think youll find many others have the same opinion as me! They should improve their standards or close down.Glad I got that off my chest!0

So fionaroscoe, what would you like back from Pontins?
The cost of the holiday?!
Also, I think StaceyAKelly has a valid point - was your free holiday actually transferable?Gone ... or have I?0 -
My tip for this site would be - try Center Parcs instead! Hubby & I have been a number of times sharing a villa with friends or relatives & it has worked out as cheap as Pontins or Butlins. CP is a million times nicer than other camps, & the kids have a fantastic time (have you ever heard of a 4yr old begging for bed at 5pm because they are so exhausted? That's what our son did!) There are a number of websites which give out code discounts (including this one, and the CP website itself)
That said, I hope you have a great holiday Superjules, don't be downhearted by what others have said!0 -
Hemsby lookss nice- anyone been? or have any late availability cottage booking websites?0
