Pincher.........so you have two internet providers and two phone lines. One phone 'number' you don't use? Just in case the first broadband goes down?

I have just recently started doing a bit of work from home, but am hoping it will grow legs, if you know what I mean.

HelptoYou.....i might try with TT again, now that I have your advice.

Cornucopia.......apologies if I did not provide enough info. My mistake. I totally agree. I just ended up with the Talktalk television, when I had Freeview and was quite happy with that.

I thought I really needed the any time calls in the hope that I get some more work from home, but I am wondering if I should try and up my minutes on my mobile contract, as it is also due for renewal. I have found in the past I can normally score some extra minutes for the same monthly cost.

My talktalk deal maybe is quite good and it is my lack of knowledge that is making me think it's not. I was offered free anytime calls, fibre and the television box thingy for £30.95 for 12 months and then up to £40 ish. I do think £40 is too much for me though.

It's just annoying that the record function has never worked on the television box and I am paying for it, yet when I tried to drop it, I was told it was just part of the package!!!!!!

The Youview box has a notional cost and they aren't going to let you out of the contract for TV until that is paid off.

The box should give you an error code with your failed recordings.

Do recordings fail for both Freeview channels and those received via Internet?

Yes, for both. I have had dozens of visits. It normally just says recording failed!?!?!?

I am at the end of my contract, so I would think the You View is paid for.

Unfortunately, when it comes to all the technical lingo, my knowledge (and confidence) is poor, although I am trying.

Also, with me just managing to secure some work from home, I am frightened to leave Talktalk, in case I found myself without broadband or phone during the change over.

I recently redone my car, buildings and contents and done a fab job. So I am determined to try and sort this out at a cost that helps me pay off my final debt.

    Yours........in desperation! lol lol

  • Not really adding much, but I agree talktalk are great for price (and I was lucky my internet speed was good too) however any problems with the service and it requires a lot of perseverance to get a conclusion. The CS people were attentive and polite but it was very difficult to get to the people you need.
    Good luck

If it's both, that tends to rule-out poor Freeview reception as the cause, and points more to a fault on the box.
I am at the end of my contract, so I would think the You View is paid for.
If you're at the end of the contract (presumably for both TV & Fibre), I would look again at what you need. TT Unlimited ADSL BB + Line rental is pretty good VFM at c. £20/mth. So you may want to see if this would suit you. Do you really need fibre, as this is £10/mth?

TT may let you keep the YV box at the end of the contract or they may not (I've heard both reports). Although if it isn't working properly, this may not be much of a benefit.

As a new customer, I would definitely look at other providers. you pay about the same per mth, but there will probably be cashback.
  • I have also been with talktalk for some years and looking for a new deals. I only pay £15.90 for line rental, £7.14 for weekend and evening talk and £4.09 anytime talk, totals £27.18 per month. I don't pay for broadband.
I would get rid of the TV deal and change to TalkTalk SimplyBroadband £16.70 (£15.03 if pay upfront )line rental. Anytime Uk Calls Boost at £7.50, totals £24.20. Helps this helps.

So, I came across John Lewis Broadband.......they quoted for me. I said I would phone them back today, as the offer was valid for 7 days. Turns out they quoted me wrongly and the deal they offered is not available with them it would be with Plusnet!!!
