Hi
I have just discovered I am not the registered keeper of my car that I bouht from a dealer about 10 months ago.
Its my understanding that its the sellers responsibility to send off the new keeper section.
Is it a legal requirement for them to do that though?

Believe so, however when they gave you the new keeper piece, it does say on it (in 6 point type no doubt) that it is your responsibility to chase it after about 6 weeks, and apply for a V5 for free as you have the tear off strip.
I did that once and got two V5s in the same post, the second one had me down as the previous and current keeper, with one extra keeper.......I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You'd best check the car is taxed.0

I would of called the dealer 8 months ago if the V5 hasn't turned up, they should have a copy of it completed for their records."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0

in fact you both should have filled in the v5 at the time of purchase, both of you sign and you keep the green new keeper supplement.sending this off to dvla will not get you a v5 in your name.the easeiest option for you now is to apply to the dvla for one but you will be charged !0

Not unless the rules have changed.
If you apply for a V5 because you never got one, and can send the green portion of the V5 in there is no charge.
"They" will of course pursue the last keeper for a BIG fine for not sending the original back

The issue you have is that you failed to chase it and any tickets for parking or speeding wont have been sent to you.
You will have probably told your insurance your the registered keeper when your not.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

How did you discover you are not the keeper?
The new keeper section is the part that you should have - do you actually have it?
Did you not think it strange that no new V5C arrived in the post around 9 months ago?
