I prefer stockings to tights for a number of reasons, one of which if you get a ladder you only have to through half a pair away and you only need to carry a spare for one leg, a boon if you have a small evening bag.
I often wear corselets or basques so the pants need to go over the top overwise going to the loo can be awkward. Moreover, if wearing seamed nylons it is difficult getting the seams straight if you pull the suspender belt down.
Here are my tips:
1. Get a good quality belt. It should be one that fastens up and is adjustable rather than an elastic one you pull on. This means it stays put especially if you are a bit slim in the hip area like me. A good quality one ensures the clips are nice and sturdy and easier to use other than the cheap ones that can fold up and twist.
2. Get one with at least 6 straps, the four strap variety are OK but if a strap comes undone you only have the one strap holding a stocking up which can cause ladders.
3. Do up the front straps sitting down and then do the back ones standing up. There is less distance to stretch the strap over.
4. Sometimes it's easier to reach up between the legs than to try and twist round. It is harder than most people think to use a mirror.
5. Get a willing helper (boyfriend in my case) to do it up for you!0 -
I gave up on stockings ages ago - maybe it's just me but no matter what belt or stockings I used they'd frequently ping off!!
Now I just use hold-ups - surprisingly the cheap Matalan and Primark ones stay up remarkably well (and have the deep lace top rather than the circulation stopper!).xxx Nikki xxx0 -
Maybe it depends on the style of knickers and suspender, but if you google stockings and suspenders most of them have the suspenders OVER the pants.
As to how to attach them to the stockings, yes that bit is fiddly.
I gave up wearing them for this reason, that and they're very uncomfortable!
More aesthetically pleasing when you're selling underwear, but not so practical when you can't get your knickers down for a wee.;)
Edit: Sorry, late to the party, I see this has already been addressed.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I have a couple of belts and some are esier than others. I think good quality (and therefore probably expensive) helps.
Knickers over belt, definitely. I think they tend to take lingerie advertising photos the wrong way round because they think it looks better.0 -
I don't even think it is more aesthetically pleasing.
It just makes me annoyed when I see it because it leads to such confusions. A second recommendation for good quality six straps for regular wear, and stouter metal clips ping less and are more flattering both.0 -
Ive never seen a suspender belt with 6 straps... mind you I'm pretty much a novice where wearing stocking are concerned. I am only going down this route because the nurse at my surgery suggested them to me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The other knickers to bare in mind are the 'French' ones! They would look odd underneath the s/bet, but look great on top of it!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0

Just out of interest.
In my day the area above the stocking top was known as the Giggle StripI used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Thanks ive bookmarked it. I'll persevere with this cheapish suspender belt for now but if I get used to it i'll invest in a better pair. I must admit the better the quality the more comfortable they look.
Love the cami knickers on that site too. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
