    Thanks Seronera. I think there's some copper above ground and some plastic of that makes any sense. But I think underground is plastic but yes, faulty joint or loose connection is I think what plumber thinks is going on there. I don't know if the joints are buried in concrete, just that there's a concrete floor in shed but plumber didn't think the pipes would go very deep. But yes, good idea to make pipes external in future (in that location anyway) but as all the rest of pipes are under floor in the house then a recurrence could occur somewhere else, somewhere worse. It is very distressing and I've not experienced this before but may take out a policy with home serve or the like in future who are offering £12 a year at the moment! But don't know whether it would cover our problem or not.
