Rather an interesting film showing what was planned in 1959. I think they'd be pretty shocked now to see the motorways as congested as the town roads they replaced.

    Not much H+S about then either - didn't spot any of the workers building the motorway wearing a hard hat...

    Aye, although to be honest I suspect they never thought that so many households two or more cars.

    Aye and the accident rates were quite nasty, although it helped a little that IIRC they weren't using as many bits of heavy machinery so less chances of something dropping on them when they were stood on the road.

    Amusing how Hyde Park Corner looks exactly the same today - same mix of buses, taxis and cars, and all not moving.
