Difference between end of terrace and semi-detached?

I can see what a row of terrace houses looks like, as opposed to 2 semi-detached houses.
What I don't know if there is a difference in terms of maintenance (the communal roofs for example, if the roof is even considered communal) and things like that?

I know what owning a flat implies, but not semi-detached or terraced house.

Confused! (I am in England)

There isn't any difference as far as the owner is concerned, but in geneal a semi is more desirable than an end of terrace as you are seen as being a step closer to the holy grail of living in a house that isn't attached to another house.
  • I normally think of a semi detached as being attached on one side to a single house rather than a whole terrace.

With a terrace there are more likely to be rights of way through your back garden, but that's the only real difference I can think of.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • Other things being equal, a semi will cost more than an end-of-terrace.

Or, looking at it from the other side, with an end-of-terrace you get all the advantages of a semi for less money.

The end-of-terrace tends to be bigger than the rest of the terrace, and generally has a bigger garden too. It will have more windows, as there are side windows as well as just front and back. And of course only one neighbour.

The roof of neither a semi nor and end-of-terrace is seen as communal - you only need to be concerned about the roof above your own property.

The only concern I would have with an end terrace vs. a semi is parking. Semis are more likely to have drives and be more spaced out. Whereas terraces tend to lead to more on- road parking

I thought they were they 3/4 storey things, rather than terraced.

A sign of affluence in an area can be amount of detached properties in the area compared to semi or terraced.
