Expediting searches?

On a knife edge here.
House sold subject to contract.
All parties have signed contracts but unable to exchange as buyer still waiting for something back from the Searches.
Have a provisional tenancy offer but I could lose it the longer this is delayed.
In which case our target completion date will also be delayed as I will have to find another place to live.
Is there a mechanism for solicitors to chase/hurry things up?

Depends which search is holding things up, local authority searches in particular are slow and whilst some will offer an expedited search at cost most do not.
