Does anyone know why this is? And will it cost me a lot of money to fix it? It's a Ford Focus. Any help would be greatly appreciated :D:D

    Hi,
I am facing a similar problem with my honda civic and I was told by my mechanic that it would cost around 100 pounds!

I don't know either of those cars in detail, but this sounds like a burnt out blower resistor. It's not usually too big a job to change one if you can find out where it is fitted.

pre 07/2000 Focus' (focii ?) had problems with the fan control switch connector failing.

    OK,

They're fitted in the fresh air vent behind the glovebox. WHAT USUALLY CAUSES THE FAILURE THOUGH is a blocked pollen filter. The pollen filter gets blocked so the fresh airflow that cools the resistor pack is restricted. When they fix the resistor pack, get them to change the pollen filter as well.

    Thanks for all your replies.

I phoned Ford and they said it would cost £81 labour just to have a look at it  Guess I'll have to make use with 3 & 4 for now.

Any autoelectrician can fix it. It's a common fault.

On my focus a dodgy garage broke the plastic trim that sits at the bottom of the passenger side of the windscreen. Water ran off the screen, on to the pollen filter and into the car. Some got on to the switch circuit board. My air con wouldn't come on, and the fan would only set to either off or 4. On another friend's focus his trim has recently come unstuck, so some water is getting in - has this happened to you?

The fix for mine was a new switch - though the garage did it for free as it was their fault.

No need to take it to a Ford dealer. Take it to a small local garage and it'll probably be half that for the complete fix.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
