Smart TV

Hi

I never had a smart TV and thought maybe now is time to get one. So, I bought LG 42LB580V LED HD 1080p Smart TV, 42" with Freeview HD. So far so good.
Now when I watch TV the picture looks so cheap. As if all movies were studio made. People looks realistic but all background is sort of unclear, like a cheap wallpaper. Is this suppose to be like this? I'm not sure shall I return it and put back my good old heavy widescreen 8 years old JVC.
This is not something that you can get used to it. Does this happen with a 32" as well or is it just with a bigger screens. Thanks

Go through the settings and turn most things 'off' - in conjunction with reading the manual - ask us if you don't know what something is. What 'mode' is it in - if it's 'Dynamic' then switch to something else - normal or cinema, as a baseline, then look into calibrating it basically. Get the colour, contrast and brightness right for your room and it'll look great.

Is it like it when streaming through the internet or all the time? My streamed viewing seems slightly odd compared to normal viewing.

TV's 'out of the box' will never look as good as the set in the shop as the shop will have all the kit needed to callibrate the screen to give the best possible picture in order to sell the TV to you.

It could be LG's TruMotion to give an "enhanced" picture, you should find an option to switch it off in the menus. As almiller says switch to cinema mode and turn off the picture enhancements such as trumotion and you will get a better picture.

The OPs complaint is always down to the motion processing. Definitely follow the linked guide to improve the picture.

Also, bear in mind that Standard Definition channels will show a poorer picture compared to HD ones. Although the SD programmes on my Pannasonic aren't as bad as I was led to believe.

I agree with others - set the tv up correctly and all will be ok.

Have a look at these settings. Looks like some guy had luck with them for the 39 inch version - https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-tv-best-picture-quality-settings.1474562/page-8#post-21099760
