flueless LPG Stoves

Hi

Was thinking of installing one of these instead of a log burner (less installation costs)

Are they any good, and which ones are the best

The issue you will have with Flueless appliances and it is very well known, is tha they will cause a lot of condensation in your property.

The manufacturers do not tell you about the correct running of a Flueless product, so let me fill you in ( from a retailer who has been selling gas and electric fires for over 25 years )

Flueless gas fires maybe 100 % efficient, but they require 2 x 100cm air vents fitted in the room, letting air into your room from outside ( cold air)

They require 'Ambient' heat in the room, to operate correctly. This means that they are secondary to CH. You have to have your CH on at the same time as the appliance to work them properly.

They can cause condensation on cold surfaces whilst running. This will be any outside wall, Windows, doors etc.

Any product emitting any form of gas/smoke/vapour - Candles, Cigarettes, air freshners, etc - will be sucked into the fire and digested through the catalytic convertor to become dark/black soot marks on your walls and ceilings.

They give off a weird smell whilst running.

The most important thing to take into account, is that they are a SECOND FORM OF HEATING, Not a Primary source. So if you are looking at one to heat your room, instead of looking nice, then it is the wrong product for you.

If you have a chimney in your house, then why not look at a proper Gas stove being fitted. It will work out cheaper to install, compared to solid fuel, will be more a Primary source of heat, do not usually need air vents and no condensation issues. You win hands down with one.

    Hope this helps

Just to add my experience of them.

We had a flue less fire fitted in our first house - a bungalow where we converted the loft as a living room. We had a stove downstairs in our old living room and had night storage heaters as well.

Upstairs though we missed the look and warmth of the stove, couldn't have a stove installed upstairs due to flue constraints so plumped for a flue less LPG stove.

It was very efficient at warming the upstairs up honestly have to say we never had any problems with soot - smells or condensation and overall were very happy with it.
