Renault scenic cutting out

Hi
I have a 03 renault scenic. I only use it to get to work and back and have had numerous problems over the years with it. Currently every time i start it up and reverse it seems as though it is hanging and will only sluggishly move backwards then either burst into life or stall. Also (normally only in first 800 yards of journey) if i try to go around a corner (usually open corner in 2nd) it just cuts off and steering go's really heavy due to no power.
The car is worthless but gets me from a to b and can't really afford to replace so therefore is also priceless as i don't want to have to ride the peasant wagon !!
any help appreciated

The revolving thingymajigbumpkin isnt revolving? Or its not revolving at the right speed? Only prayer fixes that problem.
The reverse danglydoohwahwicky has the wrong airgap? Adjust the airgap.
But there again it could be a lot of things that only apply to certain models and engines and we dont have a clue what you have.
Brakes frozen on?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
to be fair your terminology actually makes more sense to me then actual car parts !! The car is a renault scenic fidji ? 1.4 16v if that helps at all. Brakes whistle loudly all the time but don't seem locked on, flew through MOT 3 months back. Used to have a lot of problems starting but had work done on engine and seemed to rectify this0

Brakes whistle loudly..... Probably metal to metal and everytime you park they are seizing together.
Ever been serviced?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
yeah has been serviced but not for over a year, brake pads and discs have both been changed, but will get a mechanic to have a look to see if this could be an issue
cheers0 -

If you can't afford a replacement, at least find the money for a service every now and again, or learn to do it yourself. If you don't, the decision to buy a new car might be forced upon you rather than being optional.0 -

which model is it, old style or the shake your bum style.
Pre sept 03 models suffer with engine temp sensor wire chaff as the wire goes round the back of the engine from the right hand side of the engine, can cause stall issues, or shorting on the engine block causing ECU to shut down.
Post sept 03 models (shake your bum style boot type) have a fly by wire throttle, the fly by wire throttle (commonly known as the VDU stepper motor throttle) has issues where by if it gets gunked up in oil and carbon it prevents the throttle position sensor and idle speed sensor from sensing anything causing the engine to stall on start up, stall on cold engine, and stall or surge at low speeds only way to cure this temporarily is to hold foot on brake (as normal start up procedure foot on brake or clutch pedal in) and hold throttle open and rev upto and hold at 3000rpm for a minute or two before moving off, and hold revs up at junctions etc until the engine is warm fully and on bends if stalls restart whilst rolling by holding in clutch and pressing start button. Only way to stop this is to buy the updated valeo VDU throttle, or clean it out really good by taking the throttle off the engine and soaking it in carb cleaner and clean really good with a paint brush and cloths every few thousand miles0 -
hi
it's the old style, like i say its a 2nd car so if going to cost (£££) to fix will just live with it, always restarts fine just makes you look a bit of a idiot at junctions and coming off the drive as every assumes you keep stalling !! Was hoping someone would of had a magical way of fixing it like running round the car naked whilst singing kumbayah !!0 -

Thanks for the suggestions, I will get my local garage to have a look. On startup it seems as though it is struggling as once I turn the key in the ignition it bursts into life put then if have lights in etc you can see them flickering as though it's going to cut off0
