Passport application

Hello, doing a first British passport application. Confused by something in the Document checklist of things to send with the signed declaration and photos etc.
It says
'Evidence of one parent's immigration status at the time of your birth
The parents passport at the time of your birth AND
if this is your father, his marriage certificate to your mother and evidence of termination of any precious marriage if applicable'
On the directgov website it says it this way:
evidence of one of your parents’ immigration status in the UK at the time of your birth (eg a foreign passport belonging to one of your parents that was valid when you were born)
If you send documents related to your father, you must also send your parents’ marriage certificate
I've included already the passport number of my father's current British passport. He is British born as am I, mother Italian.
Is the above asking for the physical copy of one of their old passports that was valid at the time I was born? If so they can't have one because I'm sure it doesn't exist anymore. Or should I just ignore this section because I've already given the british passport number for father and their marriage certificate?

Think I've answered my own question. It says 'either' on the direct gov website at least.
It just doesn't on the instructions that came with the application. It suggests you need both.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Whilst you should complete as much as possible/ provide as much as possible the forms in reality are a bit more of a wish list than an absolute list of what is required. I know a host of people that havent been able to give everything asked for one reason or another, write the reason in the other info box and never had a problem.
The helpline is actually fairly good and most the time they say the above and just warn it may slow down the application. Obviously not filling in your name or such on the form is going to be a show stopper
