Car Share Scheme

Hey

Im looking for anyone that has a car share scheme at there workplace and what incentive they receive from it,.

Basically we are at capacity in our company car park and I have suggested a car share scheme to cut cars coming into work, cut pollution etc.

At my previous job we had such a scheme where at the end of each month the people who car share where put into a hat and then pulled out to find a winner who received something like £50 per head.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

  • Why would the company want to spend £600-£1200 a year more when its not really their issue how staff get to work?

Surely saving fuel costs between car sharers is the biggest plus point?

At one firm we would get 1p per mile and per colleague for business milage only not for commuting. So no incentive.

I tried car sharing once, within 2 miles I had the overwhelming urge to kill my passenger so nipped that in the bud it just wasn't worth a few quid in petrol money.

I shared the driving once with a colleague, was a good idea as I got on really well with him, people should only do it if they get on with the passenger/driver otherwise you end up with the situation DKLS described.

My car sharer broke every rule of being a passenger, he wanted different temperatures, he fiddled with the air vents and constantly tried to speak to me.
Final straw was when he tried changing radio station!!! it took all my energy not to beat him to death with a can of de-icer.

    Haha!

I currently car share with 3 others, it's tough as it adds 45mns onto my journey as they finish slightly later than me and we go off 'my route' for one. But as we are a one income house at moment it is a necessity. But I am counting down the days til my OH starts his job (next week, but no pay til end of month) and then til we move closer so I can get the time and my own car back! My car sharers are nice though, bit boring.

Back to the OP, the one thing that would be the biggest incentive for me is a guarenteed parking space for car sharers. We don't have that where I work and it's a real pain.

Totally agree with you, certain rules the passenger should stick too when being a passenger.
Id have to be very selective if I gave someone a lift hence I would only do it for someone I got on with or agreed to not fiddle with the radio station or the air vents.

A guaranteed space would be enough of an incentive for me.

Who is we? Your employer specifically or us as a human race because if it is the latter I would expect your employer doesn't hold the same sentiments as you do.
