Variable insurance quotes for same car, different reg

Good morning,
I am currently considering purchasing a new car (pre-registered model). However when I run insurance quotes the prices vary for the same car when I put in different registration numbers (there are several pre-registered cars available, most of the reg numbers are shown in the advert all the same model, all 64 plate). Quotes have varied from £275 to £365 for the exact same car but different registration (note all mileages between 10 and 30 miles, so the same on that front too).
Any ideas why this might be?

Are you varying the rest of the details of the quote or using your genuine details?
Is it the same insurers coming back each time with different prices?
If they are identical cars, why are you even trying the different registration plates?
There are a number of options, the most obvious is that you arent varying the rest of the details and you are hitting insurers defense mechanisms designed to stop fraud and/ or competitors trying to calculate their rates. Subsequent quotes are often loaded as a consequence or insurers stop quoting thus the aggregator list changes
Many insurers intentionally create a random element to pricing as a way of testing different segments pricing sensitivity. Due to marketing message like "20% online discount" there is normally a seed for the "random" result so that the same person gets the same load/ discount for each quote. I've seen postcode and date of birth used, in theory vehicle reg could be too0 -
Had a similar issue looking for a car for my ikkle un. 2 seemingly identical Ford KA's.
Both black, both 2004, both LX models.. Exactly the same but one was dearer to insure than the other.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

To give a bit of background my insurance is due for renewal this month so ran some quotes and the cheapest for me this time was swiftcover. Now looking at changing car so went in to the saved quote to change the car to the one im looking at. As it asks for the reg, well it is displayed in the advert so I entered this. My quote went from £265 to £360.I was expecting a small increase as there is one insurance group difference, but not that much. So I went back in and re-entered the new car, without the reg. Lo and behold the price dropped to £280. It was at this point I tried another reg as there is an identical car available at the garage. It came back at £311. I think I will run a quote without the reg and then ring them and see if they will honour that price when purchase car and confirm registration. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
