When I first start up my pc I am getting a grey box appear with an application launcher header. In the box it says unable to launch application. Its been like this for about 2 weeks now and my pc is running slower and takes longer to open. Have window washer, adaware and norton, none of which are finding anything untoward. I am a total technophobe. Any ideas in layman terms will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You may have uninstalled some software and the registry is still trying to start it when the system boots.
Get a registry cleaner, this one is free and safe, it will examine the registry create a backup and remove all entries which are no longer valid.
