Boiler replacement required - only Green Deal Home Improvement Fund? 2 measures?

I hope someone can help, as our boiler has packed up and we are now in the position of needing to replace it quickly :(.

If I have read the information correctly, for cashback through the GDHIF you need to make 2 changes from a list of 11 - what if you only really need one (a boiler)? Does anyone know how much "flat roof" needs insulating for it to count towards the two please, as we have a bay window with a flat room over the bedroom that could be insulated if required. I am aware that the solid wall part of GDHIF ran out of cash within a day, but informaiton online suggests that the remaining money is still available for work including boilers etc?

As we are not receiving benefits, are there any other options for cashback towards a new boiler please? And how quickly could all this be arranged?

Many thanks

To qualify for the cashback you would need to carry out two of the items recommended by the assessor, you can't just pick two yourself. It's unlikely that he would recommend insulating a tiny bay window roof.
Do you have floor insulation? That's often recommended.

It's only £1000 cashback though, the costs of the boiler + green deal interest will still be fairly high.

I believe the external wall insulation grants have been allocated mostly to local bodies, individual houses haven't been chosen yet, people can apply to the schemes that might be running locally by eg your council.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

    Thank you for your reply.

We have had a quote for installing and moving our boiler - it comes in around the £1700 including supply and fit (from a normal plumber). In reality, assuming that an assessor would include the heating (as completely dead and irreparable apparently) and it would need something else, would there be any point going this route anyway (apart from probably making the house warmer) given the costs of the other item and it may be that this is a good price for a boiler install without any cashback? We wouldn't be taking out the loan (probably have to come from savings) so were really looking at whether we could get any cashback to offset the unexpected £1700 new year present .

    Many thanks

  • Yeah there's still GDHIF money for getting a new boiler fitted - as for the other stuff, well usually you can pick from a list of options. Might be worth speaking to some GD firms for help really. Also see if there's any finance available from the GD installer - places like the one I used near Chester were good for that, they were able to sort me out with a heat recovery thingymabob and finance too (phew!) that stl heating really saved my bacon! If it were'nt for them I'm sure I'd of been stuck !!!
