Advice on Probate Please?

My Mum passed away just before Christmas, leaving my Dad as executor and sole benificiary of her will. Their wills were drawn up together, with a clause that their property, in the event of one of their deaths, is left to the surviving partner for their lifetime. It then comes to me, as their only child. The property needs to be sold and my Dad relocated to near me, which probate needs to be obtained to do so I believe. However, my Dad is pretty confused and confuddled and I'm worried about getting him to apply for it as he just doesn't get it, early stages of dementia I'm afraid. I can complete the paperwork, but it's the interview at the probate court that worries me. Is there any way I can apply instead?
