Dog insurance renewal help please

I had 2 border collies and the premium doubled once the eldest got to 10. There was a couple of minor claims, but nothing major. I calculated that even with the claims, the insurance company had charged me more than I got back in claims.

So I stopped insuring completely and went to self insurance. I just put a sum of money into a separate account which covers the costs if they need anything other than routine jabs etc. I have also joined the Dogs Trust which gives 3rd party insurance (ie if your dogs harms someone) for just £25/year.

To me it makes much better economic sense.

Apologies for posting the link in here as I've already posted elsewhere, but the last post regarding bumping premium highlighted why i wrote the article.

I'm not a financial advisor, but have spent a lot of time collecting data on my own dogs costs to help anyone who is thinking of insuring vs. self insuring.
