Squeeze-in houses

I don't understand the comment and certainly don't understand the link - there are probably millions of such houses in the UK

It's not a particularly well-chosen example, because it fronts onto a huge open space, but if one views the aerial shot, the area around is full of back-to-back terraced properties, which could be described as 'squeezed in.'
So, I presume it means 'nothing new about cramped housing conditions,' or something similar.0 -
There are some architecturally designed schemes that do it well though - http://www.archdaily.com/397465/gap-house-pitman-tozer/ for one. They actually called it the Gap House!
Not the cheapest of examples though! I have a client who specialises in buying small plots and doing this kind of development in London, where someone will always buy it...0 -
whilst this looks like an old property fits in with the others it is a new built used to be a double garage - quite clever really

It's not quite a squeezed in house but does anyone remember a story from last year about an older couple with a detached house whose new neighbour (a property developer allegedly) extended their property, without planning permission, overlapping the boundary and the council were going to do SFA about it.
I'll try and find a link.

Neo-classical Garage conversion anyone?

It sold for £140,000 in 2008

This property featured in Homes under the Hammer a few years ago and the guy is still trying to sell it , it must be at least 5 years later. I looked around it when my son was house hunting 4 years ago and the room sizes just don't work at all, one teeny tiny living room and kitchen combined for 3 bedrooms , well one and two half bedrooms really !!. He was asking a similar price to 'regular' 3 bed houses as well. At least now he does seem to have dropped the price so someone may buy.
Seems such a shame as he could have fitted a nice size two bedroom house on the plot if he'd planned it better.
All over this estate the large gardens are being divided and infilled, so much for Garden City living !! Desperate housing shortage though so needs must !Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
If you want "older houses" with tiny rooms on tiny plots, look at Jaywick Sands in Essex. Nearly all bungalows, many of inferior construction. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I'm keen to see what the new owner has in mind for these ex-public toilets

They would easily convert into a bedsit with kitchen and shower room. Ideal holiday let. George Clarke's "Amazing Spaces" showed an ingenious conversion of an underground public toilet in London a couple of years ago.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I certainly remember it...as I felt/feel sorry for the couple concerned. They bought a detached and then found that happening to them. I did a very quick mental calculation as to whether "next door" could do that sort of thing to me and thought "Not with most of the distance between us being mine they cant". Which is just as well as "next door" in my case is a squeeze-in in the first place, hence my awareness of them coming from a "neighbour next door to one of these houses" viewpoint.0
