Searches by Robinson Way

Options
I was contact by Robinson Way some point last year asking for a payment of an old debt. I sent the standard CCA request, again last year and have received a couple of letters stating that they are trying to obtain the original agreement and in mean time my account was on hold.

Today, I was looking at my credit report and agreed with the details listed but when I scrolled down to searches on previous addresses I noted that Robinson Way have made 45 searches since the 30 October 2014.

I have been at my current address for over 11 years.

Is this something I need to worry about?

Many thanks

If they are debt collection searches then they should be of the type that only you see on your report. i.e. anyone checking you for credit application would not see them.

Is the debt actually yours? if so then technically RW may have authority to make searches, although 45 seems absurdly excessive.

  • I don't recognise the debt although I am not saying it isn't mine, which is why I have asked for the CCA. Glad that these searches are only seen by me but I wonder how much longer they will carry on for, looking at the pattern they are sometimes done on a daily basis.

Really you should have sent something like.

--> Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter

See this post as to why --> http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=57422683&postcount=2

If the searches are doing you no harm, then perhaps no harm done in other ways, but should they come back with a reconstituted CCA etc then you may find yourself having to backtrack and dispute the debt in a better way.

  • I have a couple from them, labelled as 'trace' searches.

Best of luck with Robinson Way. I have an ongoing dispute with them concerning a debt which I know is nothing to do with me. I waited a bit too long before sending them a 'prove it' letter so they put a default note & a false linked address on my credit report with all three credit reference agencies. I sent RW a letter denying all knowledge of the debt & asking them to prove it or remove the false information from my credit report. Six weeks later & no reply. The CRAs will only remove information when instructed to do so by the lender or DCA. I think CRAs should be forced to take more responsibility for verifying disputed & defamatory information posted on credit reports.

I am not sure that is correct is it? I thought they stayed for six years and were visible if they were 'debt collection'

No. Only visible to you. Should stay for 1 or 2 years for info.
