It never was on topic / on tangent.
Every time someone like Generali quotes some figures, the usual response is to post a twitter comment or dismiss the source of the figures.
That's because he's quoting from Hamish, who got them from Kevin Hague.. on Twitter. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
The SNP Petition states

Sounds wonderful BUT it is typical of the SNP's approach of making impossible demands and then complaining when they are not met.
There is a plan behind the UK Parliament's approach (I gave the gist of part of it a few posts back) but there is no way the UK could define on a comprehensive way what should happen in Syria being only a small part of the range of counties now involved in the political peace process ... They include Russia, U.S., France, China and the UK. The UK contributes to but cannot dictate the decisions of the U.N. Security Council, for that is essentially what we have there. So how on earth can a comprehensive plan be found before things are thrashed out? There is already plan enough available on the political front already. A similar remark can be made about the other issues, like preventing funding etc.
What was under discussion was basically the UK legitimizing its role in influencing in modest measure these heavy duty matters, and extending its contribution to the full arena to the destruction of Daesh. It was not about the UK solving the whole business by itself.
The petition is based on an infantile proposition.
One could argue a comprehensive plan should have been thrashed out before making a decision to go to war.0 -

It's asking people to 'show support' not storm Westminster. And 84,675 sigs in less than 24 hours is pretty impressive. Even the Herald felt driven to cover it.
Not being dragged into more middle eastern conflicts was one of the main cornerstones of the independence Yes campaign. Glad to see there's still so many motivated people out there showing their support in this.
Ps Stan Collymore didn't join. He donated 20 quid to both the SNP and Plaid. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

I doubt there was a comprehensive plan before Bannockburn.
I guess the SNP would have voted against.0 -

Today's news:
Airstrike hits Syrian Water Plant affecting 3.5m
Syrian & Russian press condemn UK airstrikes
UK used Paveways not Brimstones
That'll be another 20,000 terrorists just made for ISIS
Well done WM ...
Wonder how many innocents will die today
Are you going to correct your drivel?, talking garbage re Scottish indi is one thing but getting something such as this fundamentally wrong warrants a correction from you.Left is never right but I always am.0 -

We are at war whether you like it or not. The question is what should be done.0 -

that would probably need a large ground force from the UN committed to the area for 25-50 years plus a lot of nation and infrastructure building
its probably not as bad as it sounds but I doubt the public or our MPs would want that.0 -

We need a C21st Marshall Plan for MENA. These problems are only going to get worse as oil loses value. The area also seems to be increasingly prone to drought as climate change takes effect.0
