Signed contract, Does it have to be returned?

Once the contract for purchasing our house is signed by our purchaser, doe this then have to be returned to our solicitor before we can sign for our purchase? New to all this so any help is appreciated!!!

The purchaser signs their contract and returns it to their solicitor, you sign your contract and return it to your solicitor. Once both solicitors have signed contracts they can be "exchanged" (which in practice is just a phone call rather than physical exchange).Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
