Thanks all, to be on the safe side have decided to do CHAPS payment, think i would rather have the peace of mind. Plus i think it will be less likely to trigger off fraud alerts from my bank this way (especially as the funds were held across different accounts to maximise interest so the account i will be sending money in from has had an influx of funds in from multiple accounts).

We paid our deposit from 4 different bank accounts (2 x ISAs, 2 x savings) using faster payments. My partner did get rung by the bank to query his transactions (2 of the 4), but I had nothing and the phone call didn't delay things at all.

The exact words from my solicitor (who happens to be a personal friend from way back) were "I don't know what kind of leverage you have with your bank manager but I've never seen funds come through so fast". That was using FP.

Given that no bank manager has any influence whatsoever on the operation of Faster Payments I would decline to answer to keep the mystique going :).

Yeah I know that lol, I don't think a bank manager has much influence on anything beyond sales targets :) Just saying, he didn't seem to have any issue with it & it's generally near-instant.

My solicitor has asked for a Telegraphic transfer, not sure if that is another name for something else mentioned in this thread?

    Telegraphic Transfer = CHAPS.

No idea why the old name has stuck among the legal profession.

Great, thanks for clearing that up.
