Never got gas bills at a flat from a few years back, just curious to what may happen

This is going back like 5 years anyway in Scotland so it would be barred and I never was contacted by any utilily company about it.

I moved into a flat and as it was coming up to summer never used heating to November of that year when it was on most days till febuary when I moved, at the time I just assumed my electric meter covered both and never saw a gas meter in the property, plus the landlord contacts the utility company whenever someone moves out or in, I just assumed that because my electricity use had doubled it was just related to that i.e I was paying £3.50 a week at the time in summer then about £7 or £8 in winter(and that was with changing from a crt tv and computer monitor to a lcd tv and monitor)

I know its not that relevant now just trying to work out what happened for future reference, as nothing shows on my credit report about it even when I checked about 3 years ago. Did someone screw up? and if so why was I not even getting bills addressed to occupier? Plus it seems strange to have a contract gas meter and PAYG electric.

I'm struggling to understand how you had gas appliances in the property, yet thought these were paid for via your electricity PPM?
It's the tenant's job to register for the supplies (since the account and bills are theirs, not the landlord's).
If you made no attempt to contact the supplier, then the back billing rule does not apply. Any debt would be statute barred, but if no bill was ever produced, and consequently no debt, then there is nothing to be barred.
It's not unusual to mix credit meters and PPM's. The gas supply may have been shipperless.
PS changing your PC monitor would not double your electricity usage: what consumes the bulk of your energy is heating and hot water.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Part of the contract was that the landlord takes meter readings the day you enter and leave and contacts the utility companies. I think this was just a way for the LL to claim money as they said in contract that any arrears when you move out must be paid to LL NOT the utility company, indeed with me I did it so when I moved out I had no electric left on meter(I was actually without anything for a few hours as it ran out early) then LL took money off my deposit to put it £10 in credit despite at the time new customers getting £5 free credit when registering.

It was my first flat as before lived in house shares and bedsits where heating was either included and electric was meters in room or in my student flats bills were in LL name and we paid him when he mentioned it(which caused a few arguments from me as I had one shower every day or two and flatmates around 3 showers a day and had stereos in living room and kitchen when in there and left them on after they left) Plus I am autistic so just thought it was logical.

I never found any meter in the property thats the strange thing, only electric one in hallway cupboard and in kitchen I used all the storage for food and never saw one even landlord couldnt find one when I moved out.

I still find it strange that I never got a bill not even addressed to occupier which added to the idea there was just 1 meter, either way I wonder why usage doubled in winter apart from the logical more lighting as I had energy saving bulbs and only used light in rooms I was in and only used bedroom to sleep.

As you have waited five years to pose the question I am pretty sure it is entirely rhetorical and you know the answer.
