Different Info on Experian and Equifax

Hi all,
I'm a little confused... I have recently looked at my report from Experian and Equifax. All of the accounts I have are listed with both CRA's, however Experian are showing up 4 late payments on two of my accounts back about 6 years ago but Equifax is showing as all clear. The accounts are with EE and Littlewoods, both of which are now closed (EE in 2014 and Littlewoods in 2013).
I know I made 1 late payment to EE due to the bank not sorting out my direct debit properly when I switched (back in 2007), but the others are not accurate. Is it normal for them to hold differing information like this?
Who do I need to contact to get this looked into & what is the usual process? I know they are quite old but I am wanting to apply for a mortgage later this year and I know things like this can cause an issue.
Any advice would be great
Thanks in advance

you need to contact EE or which ever company provided the incorrect info, as it's them that can correct it, the credit agenties only show what they get told to.
Customer services are unlikely to be much help, so might just be best writing straight to the data controller at EE as they are the person that's job it is to make sure all data is correct, just provide as much proof as you can to them.
This link has details on how to contact the data controller (dead link, but points you in the right way) and also a template of a letter to write (template will need a bit(lot) of editing).

Hi Ladymdg,
Getting your credit report in advance of applying for a mortgage and making sure you are happy with what is recorded is always a good idea!
If you have found information on your Experian report that you think is wrong, in addition to contacting the lender direct you can contact us, and we will be able to contact the lender on your behalf, and mark the information as disputed while we do this.
Our Ask James page covers the dispute process in more details here, along with what you can do if the company don't agree to change the information.
Kind Regards

Thanks guys, EE have been surprisingly helpful and have just confirmed that they made an error and have instructed all 3 CRA's to remove the late payments. Just Littlewoods to go, hopefully they will be as helpful!0
