Tuning problems on panasonic plasma freeview HD tv.

Hi folks,
I have a somewhat perplexing problem on my new plasma tv
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7471553.htm
which has a freeview HD tuner, a freeview HD tuner because I live in N Ireland and to pick up the Republic of Ireland TV (Saorview) it has to be a freeview HD tuner as the ordinary freeview service can't tune into it.
The Humax box that I got at the digital switchover can tune into a particular channel called RTE 1 on Saorview which used to be on channel 801 but has now moved to channel 820, still picked up no problem on the Humax box.
The strange thing is if I auto tune the new plasma and select N Ireland as my location then bbc 1 will be on channel 1 and upwards and all of the Saorview from 800 onwards but RTE 1 on channel 820 is not there.
However when auto tuning if I select Ireland as my location then RTE1 is on channel 1 and Uk freeview services start from BBC on channel 51.
As RTE 1 is broadcast to N Ireland under agreement, just curious as to why it can't be picked up on its usual channel 820 if I select N Ireland as my location on the above tv.
Probably most on here won't be familiar with the Saorview service but if anyone has an explanation I would appreciate it.
Thanks
John

A confusing one, and I'm not sure if I'll get it right, but can help a bit.
Telling the TV your region simply tells it where you are, and which channel should be at number 1 - as you've seen - RTE1 vs BBC1. Then it just goes and scans, and puts the channels at the numbers the transmitters tell it to.
Now, you are NOT receieving Saorview, unless you missed out this detail. You're receving the RTE channels through Freeview, from NI transmitters. Correct me if I'm wrong, and if you know that you're tuned into an RoI transmitter.
So, with the above information - what RTE channels is it that transmit in NI now - do we get RTE1?0 -
I suspect its more the Freeview guide does not know to expect the Saorview channnels so hence they end up at the 800 channel mark, Have you tried to manually tune it in to be sure its there on the transmitter?
FreeviewHD TV is DVB-T2, I'm guessing by your first comment that Saorview is DVB-T2 and hence not recieved on a non HD box0 -
Assuming the Humax box is also HD and you are using an HDMI cable, remove the cable and any other HDMI cables you have connected to the TV. Connect the aerial direct to the TV and try a retune and see what happens.0

Thanks for replies folks. I have found rte1 at channel 837. Must have been my excitement at getting new TV...I missed it.
Some of the main transmitters in N Ireland transmit rte but not all the relay transmitters do, same for a lot of other channels. I get my rte from republic I believe.
Anyway thanks for replies. All I need now is a DVD player.

Good stuff johnsmi - No Soarview involved then, the RTE channels are coming through Freeview.
And I think you mean Blu-Ray player ;-)0 -

Possibly. Any channels that does not match what the box expects to see from the Freeview guide data gets pushed up to the 800 channel range.
Its possible Johnsmi's box is getting signals from more than one transmitted, The postcode for his area determines what ends up on "normal" channels (like BBC1 should always be on Channel 1 if the datas work right), and the Saorview channels are detected but not expected so hence ending up on the boxes "I've no idea from the guide data " 800 range.
Where exactly any give station ends up channel number wise in that range is probably down to the order they were detected as the system did it's tuning,0
