What the best digital camera I can get for £130ish

Well, at xmas we were given cash to get ourselves a digital camera, but at the time the money got spent on other stuff apart from ourselves, so I have decided that we should just get a camera for the money we were given, but now I am perplexed by the choices!

I have seen a Fujifilm Finepix S5700, that we could get for £129, but in currys there is a samsung 10million pixel camera for £129, but I'm not sure which is the best, or if there is a better one available for a similar cost, I am hoping some techno wizard will know the best deal, as my mind is boggling from hours of searching!

Do you want one you can slip in your pocket eg the Samsung or one which won't eg the Fuji?

Best camera in your budget, Fuji F31 at Tecno ( part of Jessops ) at £114 ish, it gets excellent reviews.

Fantastic in low light conditions, excellent battery life, has " face detection " and a far superior lens to many others.

TBH Samsung cameras are not the best.
  • Oooh, thanks people, lots of things to think about!! And another couple of hours research!!

I am glad I asked about the Samsung as I have been looking at this one on and off since xmas, but now I think I will avoid it like the plague!

And Stacey21, this really is scarey, especially as I am a Stacey too!!! Some test shots would be fantastic, does it do nice detailed close up stuff??

Don't get hung up on the number of megapixels, things like lens quality and optical zoom are just as important to getting good pictures if not more so. Also ignore digital zoom, it's generally rubbish.

How strange! Yes it takes fab close up pics,I took a picture of my steering wheel (playing about in the car) and it picked up little particles of dirt and dust!! I couldn't even see it with my eyes! lol
The only thing is it runs on batteries, but I got 5 packs of 4 by Phillips for £5 from Currys. If you send me your email I can email some over.

    :)

Get the fuji S5700. Picked one up last week as replacement for my 5 year old Fuji S602 and the pictures are in another league.
