Bouncy plywood floor?

Hello!
We have hardboard in our bathroom over the floorboards then vinyl (lino) over this. The reason my husband put hardboard over the floorboards is that some of the floorboards were replaced and as they were a few mm different in size, we wanted to level the floor. The floor is not that level anyway as there are 2 bits of wood covering the floorboards and it is slightly higher in the middle. The main issue is that the left hand of the bathroom floor has become quite bouncy in the last few months. It squeaks and moves a bit. My husband says wood changes in the winter and so this is why. Is this true?

Wood does move with temperature and humidity changes but realistically ply inside a house won't be moving much at all.
I'd suspect that perhaps the ply has become loose, how thick is the ply? and was it fixed to the floorboards or through to the joists? nailed or screwed down?0 -

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure of the thickness of the ply.
I will get him to check if the wood needs screwing down more. It has been screwed into the joists and the floorboards he says0 -
may just need screws tightening or a few longer ones/extra ones .
If the ply is anything less than 6mm it will flex over an uneven floor, even 6 will flex if the floor underneath is badly unlevel.
Regardless of cause, to sort it the vinyl has to come up, and once that's up it should be more obvious what's going on.0 -
Thanks Reece. I will ask him to do that at the weekend.0
