Collecting Items...

Hiya just after a bit of advice / your thoughts please :
I am having a good clear out and Ebaying a lot of stuff. A few things have sold now (just little things really) but buyers want to collect. The problem is that I have added a couple of pounds or so onto the P & P to make selling worth my while - if the buyers collect then I won't have made anything.
I know I shouldn't count on the money but I have, anyone else been in a simular position? I don't just want to say no as I look unfair, but I guess I am being unfair, any advice?
Thanks

You don't have to allow anyone to collect if you don't want to.
If a buyer wants to collect, they're meant to agree with the seller BEFORE buying....
Go easy on the P&P pricing next timeMy TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Best bet is to start at a decent price eg/ £9.99 ( not £1.99):j
Hope This Helps, I'm also into Ebay for my sins !!!!!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!

I used to offer collection on all items, what usually happened was I'd end up either waiting myself or a member of staff for someone to turn up to collect an item for a minimal amount, strangely the smaller the amount the less likely they are of turning up (in my experience).
So I put a limit on, collection possible only over a certain amount of spending. Also make sure its on your terms as you get people wanting to collect at "midnight on Tuesday" or some other idiot time. So point out the best times for you and specify appointments must be made..0 -
Also don't forget that even if you do decide to allow collection make sure you insist on cash only, do not allow paypal items to be collected.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Like other people have said it is up to you what you do. One thing you can say is that you do not accept people to collect items .... I don't as I don' want any tom !!!!!! or Harry coming to my house, you don't know who they are!!Angel0

Try pricing your postage more realistically and people will probably pay it for delivery. If someone local to me is charging £5 for example to post somehting I know costs £2, I would rather collect it than be done over by their pricing, but I would pay £2 if that's what they charged and save me the hassle of collection.
Start your auctions at the price you think makes it worth your while and charge p&p closer to the actual cost.0 -

Because you have no proof of delivery. You are wide open to a chargeback if the buyer claims they have never received the goods.0 -
Tales of woe are posted regularly on the eBay Q&A forums about this subject, and only a few days ago I read a bout somebody loosing a PS3 and £350 off their credit card
Cash only on collection! No exceptions.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
i can only echo what the others have said, just read a few threads on here and you'll see why paypal should NEVER be taken for a collected item.
There is a thread within the last week where it looks as though the seller was targetted by a scammer and who paid by paypal and collected item..scammers will often hit a number of sellers at the same time working on the basis that they will find enough newbies or naive sellers to make it worth their while. Even a non scammer can make use of the no delivery aspect...for instance if they break the item instead of trying you for a refund they can just pretend they haven't got it and again you will be forced to repay them.
I love paypal, I defend it on here all the time yet this is one time when accepting it would be extremely foolish.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
