i Pad repair or new?

My G daughters 2 year old I Pad has 'died' no apparent reason and I've had some great advice from MSE users previously, but still 'dead'
I would like some advice, do I take it to nearest Apple store and get 'full repair' someone told me I can 'swap it' for a refurbished one?
While I'm there I was going to purchase one for myself, either new or refurbished, not sure?
Do you think they would 'do a deal?'
Any advice appreciated, thank you.

When my ipad 2 died(black screen only), I googled the problem and loads of people recommended dropping it and banging very hard on the back close to the home button.
As it was less than a year old you can imagine I really didn't want to do this. After a few months without it I thought what the heck I will have to replace it anyway so there's nothing to lose.

Worked fine ever since....honestly...perhaps that's why people pay so much for broken iPads on ebay...they know what to do. It's at your own risk of course but google and you tube first there's plenty of people who have rectified the problem. Good luck.

Which version of iPad is it?

Is it just over or under 2 years? Did you buy AppleCare for it?

Apple do have a good reputation for dealing with issues outside of warranty or when its user error etc but you are purely looking at their goodwill. Certainly some will have gone in and simply had it swapped out. Others will however receive the standard price quote for a repair.

    Thank you for your advice.

If you have one nearby, it cost nothing to take it in and go ask an Apple bod in an Apple store. Worst case is they says its a chargeable repair, best case is they solve the issue.
