Only my opinion but the company I work for pay £20 per month, including hosting for a fully functional website with tutorials etc for uploading. Off the top of my head I think they're called clickpromo or similar.

Thanks for that. £20p/m wouldn't break but the more I think about it, the more i believe that an automated email would be the best option for me. Anyone know if this is possible?

Also, I presume I'll need some kind of content management system... I don't want to have to create a whole new web page if I all a model... Any suggestions on how this may work?

I would suggest that if you do allow people to upload their own images that they should not be made visible until you have approved them, otherwise I'm certain that your website will soon be hosting indecent and possibly illegal content.

Some helpful pointers above - especially around site security and maintenance. Any user uploads create a massive security risk vector, you will have to stay on top of security patching the same day as things are identified. WordPress is pretty good at updating itself (if configured to do so) but plugins will almost certainly require intervention, and may be the weak point. The best way to think of the open internet is that it's actively a hostile environment for sites and servers, automated attacks are running 24/7 so any new vulnerability can be exploited widely in a few hours overnight. It used to be the wild west, now it's a dodgy back-alley with crack-pimps and muggers.

Yep, I already figured that. all the potential models will be vetted before becoming part of the agency. the photos are just to assess their initial suitability. Thanks anyway :)

Agreed. Thanks all for your help. I'll investigate further.

One last thing. What are your thoughts on services like Wix? I managed to knock together a simple site which looks (pretty close) to what I want (apart from the file uploading part.) Is wordpress much more difficult than that?

    Thanks again.

If it makes any difference, would it be possible for the website to email the photos to the appropriate person directly, instead of actually uploading onto a server? If this is possible, perhaps this might be easier? Online viewing is not necessary, and automated email would be ideal.

Yes/No, depending on how accurate/ technical you want to be.

If the server is to email the photos then it must have the photos, so no its not possible for the server to email them without them being uploaded. There isnt a requirement for the server to actually keep the images though once its sent them so to a more laymens thinking then possibly yes

Having the details and photos simply emailed to you would make the coding slightly easier as you avoid the issues of having to ensure there is no naming conflicts, how you ensure others cannot access them on the web server, how you keep the users details and photos together/ connectable and gives a very easy access method to anyone non-technical. None of these are actually that hard to solve though and only requires a modest amount of thought or the use of a plug in that is designed for something similar if you are going down the pre-built route.
