Interested in any reviews of Red Castle pushchairs / or any lie flat car seats?

Hi

I have already posted about the Mutsy and Bebeconfort and have had some really helpful replies.

I am looking to buy a lie flat car seat for our forthcoming baby and I have recently discovered the Red Castle Whizz - I am really interested to know what people think of them?

Many Thanks

Alison x

Which reviewed other lie flat car seats last year and did not recommend them at all - they weren't safe enough apparently. They haven't reviewed the ones you named though.

    Hiya

Yeah lots of people have said this but I am a member of which and can't find the report - I am really interested to know what they reviewed, etc. Don't suppose you know.

    Thanks Alison x

If you search for car seats on the website, it comes up with the latest review from last month? If you read the article I think it mentions the lie flat ones they tested last year. (fingers crossed!)

This is what the which site says: http://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_campaigns/cars/reports/safety_and_security/car_safety/Child%20seats/Child_seats_esential_guide_574_74191_3.jsp

"We can’t recommend carrycots, based on our past crash-test results. If you already own one, we suggest you buy an alternative 0+ category seat for use in the car. But if you have a carrycot and there’s nothing else you can use, it’s better than nothing at all.
If you have to use a carrycot, place it across the back seat, as close to the middle as you can. This may use up more space, but it means the baby is less vulnerable in a crash. Place the baby’s head as far from the door as possible, to try to avoid contact with the door in a crash.!

    Hiya

    Thank You x

Yeah I read that too - but the BebeConfort is not a carrycot CLICK but does go virtually flat - Do you think they mean this too? Yikes its so complicated.

I want a flat car seat for long distance driving ( and hopefully a sleeping baby - ha ha that can lay flat safely for longer than an hour or 2).

    Thanks Alison x

I don't know if you've already considered it, but what about the Jane Matrix?

Several of my friends bought this after much research, and I believe it's both a safe and practical solution. It's a car seat, but also doubles as a carrycot.

Thanks Cissi - The Jane Matrix had really bad reviews in the which safety report

Its says this about the Jane Matrix Cup

We weren't very impressed with this baby seat. Although it gives good front crash protection and excellent head support, side crash protection isn't great, and it's not very user friendly.

And this about the Jane Matrix Pro

This seat is designed for babies from birth to about a year (13kg). It is quite unusual in that it can carry very small babies both rearward-facing and lying flat, but in this latter mode it achieved just one star for overall safety and the risk of serious injury to a baby in a crash is far too high. Don’t buy this model.

Yikes - so it doesn't sound like a good choice. But Thanks for posting x

Ok, probably not the best option then.

I had read that car seats that go flat aren't as safe as conventional infant carriers, but I thought perhaps that was just me being Swedish and paranoid about this ;) (In Sweden the recommendation is that all children should be rearward-facing until the age of 4 - they do sell special car seats for this).

Thanks thats interesting x I really have no idea what the best thing to do is.
The ones I like are the Mutsy (Dutch) and the Red Castle and Bebeconfort - which are both French! Hmmmm. I have emailed the Red Castle company direct to ask about how safe these lie flat car seats are and do they have any reports for me to look at.

Thanks again for your reply x
