Why is posting links to DIY video banned??!

Why can we not post links to youtube videos that help people save money by doing DIY?

It is the best way of saving money and one of my hobbies at the moment is doing some videos while I am fixing stuff, which is most of the time, and then putting them on youtube, to hopefully encourage some DIY which seems to be a dying capability for a lot of people.

The moneysavingexperts are allowed to post links to youtube videos for instance in the help section, but not us ordinary members.

A big missed opportunity for some big money saving. For instance I just saved thousands by renovating my block paving myself after hearing how my friend had his done by professionals at the cost of about £5k!
I just followed the same methods. Very time consuming but also very money saving.

What do you think? Should links to youtube 'how to...' videos be allowed?

I suspect there are two issues with what you are trying to do.

Firstly as a new member you are prevented from posting any form of link for a period (partly time related and partly related to a number of postings I believe). This is just to stop trolls and bots registering and instantly posting lots of rubbish links etc. That restriction will pass.

Secondly this site is very strict on anything that is self interest - so you can't post links to something you benefit from. Whether your own Youtube channel would fall into that I don't know. I could certainly post a link to something link this espares outtakes video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4s79MipbfI but I might be warned not to post a link to something where it was perceived I was benefiting which some channels do due to income generated from them.

    Nice and friendly web site?
What I am trying to do is encourage DIY as a big money saver. Most people are afraid of fixing things as they don't know where to start, think they'll make it worse or lack confidence.
Seeing someone fix something in a video means they can follow the exact same steps, for instance I recently dismantled my thermostatic shower unit which was stuck on cold only, fixed it for nothing. I bet a plumber would have said a new unit was required, hack out the wall, retile, probably lots of £s. I might make a video sometime to help others on this, as there must be loads of old showers not working well enough and could be fixed for nothing, I would have thought a web site dedicated to moneysaving ought to encourage this sort of thing. No?

The few pence of possible youtube earnings really don't cover the time spent making these, really just a hobby and the nice feeling that I may be helping others. Seems a missed opportunity when you can't share that knowledge.

P.S. I dare not post any links because the rules are so strict!

I don't think you should take it so personally.

Keeping 'spam' posting and spammers from taking over forums like this is a massive job, unfortunately in doing that sometimes legitimate people are stopped from 'trying to be helpful'.

I think a lot of people are indeed fixing things themselves, I know I do and the many websites that have sprung up with 'fix it' solutions and advice, which can indeed be a big money saving help, are great - As can youtube videos and step by step guides.

If you are posting 'fix it' videos to youtube then if they are properly titled and tagged then I'm sure people searching for such solutions will find them.
