Where do I stand with this parking ticket?

I picked up a parking ticket in a council car park on 10th December. I paid for 2 hours parking by 'PayByPhone' but unfortunately when I registered my account with them, I was in my husbands car. As it's an automated service you just enter your mobile number and how long you wish to pay for, and it just didn't click that I was set up for a different car.

I paid for 2 hours, from 12.42-15.42

Fair enough, I then got a ticket. I just went to pay it, but reading the actual notice it says:

'Parked after the expiry of paid for time'
Time of contravention 14.37
Pay & display ticket number 3981996
Expiry Time 13.43.00

But I didn't have a pay and display ticket? They must have been looking at an old one in the window.

Is it worth contesting this ticket? Either on the basis that I paid for the wrong vehicle (seems unlikely!) Or that they have the details of the penalty wrong?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Take this over to Pepipoo - they deal with Council tickets. Read a few posts there to get the hang of what info they must see in your opening post there if you want to get any help.

This sounds like a very easy one to beat, but they'll advise better.

    That's 3 hours.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • Good point.
  • Posted on pepipoo at lunch time but no response as yet. Would anyone here be able to offer any advice?

Did you follow the advice and post ALL the info they require? (Including photos/scans of all paperwork received, and signage).

I don't think you can expect instant response. All these forums are extremely busy, manned (womanned!) by a relatively small number of regulars, giving freely of their own time.

We really major on private parking charges here, so you're not going to get the same in-depth expertise (unless Coupon-mad pitches in) as on the specific 'Council Parking' section on Pepipoo.

If you've posted everything you've been advised to put up there, then please be patient.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

  • All posted, and am being kindly assisted now. Apologies for being impatient! I (through my own fault) have left it rather late so want to either pay it or appeal it asap.

    Thanks for your help :)
  • I have found excellent advice on these forums re a private parking charge in the last few months too. A quick google directed me to the relevant threads and saved me £100, so thankyou for that too :)
