Nationwide FlexPlus - Application

Hi guys,
I have recently become a Nationwide customer -have a FlexDirect, my partner also has a FlexDirect. We both also run Save to Buy ISA accounts.
We recently applied for a FlexPlus joint account to receive all the benefits and cancel our standalone breakdown cover and mobile elsewhere, saving us nearly £150 a year.
I received notice from Nationwide that they are "checking my application" to see if they can open the account. They will let me know in "5 working days". My credit isn't perfect but my partners is.
Anyway as we wait for the application to process - I noticed on my Experian account that the account now shows on our report as a running account setup on the date we applied.
Can I just assume the accounts activated and they are just running ID checks etc?
Thank you

Who knows, best to just wait and see.
But just a thought, I do know that Nationwide are hard to get overdrafts with, as one of you has bad credit, you might not be eligible for an overdraft straight away.
Also, your bad credit will affect your partners ability to obtain credit in the future, what exactly is wrong with your credit? (Defaults/CCJs/late payments?)0 -

Thanks - fingers crossed.
I know Nationwide are a tough cookie but their customer service seems a world apart from Natwest/RBS/HSBC/First Direct. We declined any overdraft anyway.
We understand about the joint application but we had to do it for Mortgage we plan to take in a year or so and the Nationwide advisors insisted this wold be needed0 -
Why the need to "assume" and keep "fingers crossed"? Why not ring them (on their free phone number) and get your information from the horses mouth?
I presume your "Experian account" is a 30-day free trial. If not, then £14.99 a month is nearly £180 a year. Good use of your money?0 -

I see you got accepted for Vanquis and Barclaycard a couple of days ago, are they the only credit checks you had done?, or did you apply for a couple more but got declined? I say this because Nationwide may not offer you the account but still offer it to your partner due to your recent excessive searches.
For a mortgage you'll need a file free from defaults, late payments etc for Nationwide to consider. Keep eye on your spending and make sure you don't overspend.0 -
I had the same when applying fot my FlexDirect account a few weeks back. It all came through fine. I have a great credit history, sometimes they just need to check out things if something like a name or addrss doesn't quite match. I found out mine was because one current account I have (from when I was like 16) uses my middle name, whereas now I rarely use it so didn't enter it onto the application form.0

Having good and bad credit history can play a big part in whether Nationwide want to do business with someone or not, just because you got the account doesn't mean someone else with not so great credit history as you would get one.
OP, Just call them up and ask them what's going on

My point was that even having a very good credit history, doesn't mean it'll be plain sailing.0

I've been with Nationwide since 2008, From 2008 until 2012 I held a CashCard+ account, in late 2012 I upgraded to the FlexDirect then middle of 2013 I upgraded again to the FlexPlus account.
Although I had been with them since 2008, it wasn't until 2013 they allowed me to have an OD, back then it was only £100, then it went up to £300, then £700 and now it is at £2100, given I don't use it it's nice to have it there, I only deposit £1500 per month into the account, as it is my main account used for direct debits etc.
From experience they are very picky about who gets lending and accounts, in 2008 they where even picky about who they gave debit cards to, let alone OD's.
It's given as they are a building society and need to make sure they are lending to and doing business with the right people, bare in mind my one only CCJ dropped of in July 2014, and I still have one default on my file, which will drop off in July 2015.
I think if you show you can be responsible and run the account fine, they'll take internal information into consideration more than external (CRAs).0 -
I have been with Nationwide since 2005 & I have been charged £600+ bank charges. I have been on a money management course with CAP to help with finances and IVA debt whilst being on benefits. Recently I have had bank charges even though there is money into the account. This is mainly due to Asda supermarket holding money with Visa on an online order, the online delivery requesting a further amount (paying double). This happened over Christmas & the bank froze my Christmas spending money I saved for my child. I went away over the New Year and the hotel has done the same. I have put £150 cash into the account, yet I am -£300 and cannot use the account to buy food for my child. What is happening? Who is to blame? I approach the bank & the staff say it's the company, the company blame the bank & I'm the one who does all the work and gets charged for the privilege...0

All looks good. Just called them as you suggested and it only took a little longer due to a notice of correction. All resolved and all the mumbo on its way.
Thanks to YorkshireBoy for his lovely snidey remarks. Must be great being a doughnut on the internet.
Thanks to everyone else genuinely for your help!
