working tax credits - what if you don't always work 30 hours

I think I read to claim working tax credits, you have to work 30 hours minimum but whilst I'm scheduled to do that... at the moment my hours are slightly variable... so am not sure I'd be eligible every week... I just wondered how it works...

Comments

  • how many hours i am actually needed varies a bit - plus there's been bank holidays recently...

    thank you
  • >If employed and contracted to 30 hours, why are you not working them?

It is seasonal work so I get sent home early some days.

    >Are you still being paid for 30 hours even if you are not working them?

No, just the hours I work.
  • But I am scheduled to do over 30 hours.

assuming you are single with no children or disabilities (you have not answered these questions in post #2) You will need to work over 30 hours to qualify for WTC. You say there are times you do not but are there times when you work over 30 hours?..do you average 30 hours per week over say a 3 month period or do you either work 30 hours or less each week
    What does your contract state?

    I have neither of these.

    >You say there are times you do not

Not sure until I get my next payslip but I've been on the edge of that lately.

    >but are there times when you work over 30 hours?

    Yes and well over.

    >..do you average 30 hours per week over say a 3 month period

    Yes the last 3 months.
  • i think i read somewhere this whole process is going online this year - but can't remember where i read this... i'm not sure when exactly... maybe in the new tax year... anybody know?
