Thanks, but how can I get access to these CRA files to check if anything is wrong?

You can either send for a postal report from each (for £2), or you can sign up for the online services and go through any verification checks.

The point from Yorkshire Boy is because it often can take a couple of months before the electoral roll data is updated on to your credit files. So you need to know it is definitely showing on your credit files before making another application to halifax.

Is there any link to do this request or is it the same report I could get via Experian?

Anyway, one thing that is still unclear to me: Experian says that thei report is base on all the present and past information that they have about bank accounts held in UK. Does this mean that all my credit history from non-UK accounts is not considered at all?

Your credit history for non UK accounts does not appear on your UK credit reports at all and won't be considered by any potential UK lender.

There are 3 credit reference agencies in the UK and all may hold slightly different data. Any potential lender will search one or more of these.

    They are
Experian (also branded as credit expert)
    Equifax
    Callcredit (also branded as noddle).

Whether you get a copy of each statutory report online or by post the information will be the same. If the agencies are struggling to verify your identity online then the postal report is the alternative.

  • Thank you for all the information.

I am surprised they don't check credit history outside UK. What if someone has late payments in a credit card issued by a bank in his/her country of origin (ex UK) but good credit history in UK?
Will banks give mortgages/credit cards without problems?

By the way, if they don't check outside UK (where at least I have a credit card) I am even more puzzled by my failed applications.
Here in UK I just have one debit card.

It must really be the registration to UK electoral roll playing a huge role in my credit situation.

In the UK having no history of credit can hinder your applications. A bit of a catch 22 for some! However there are 'poor credit' credit cards...
