Be very wary about any online loan sites. If they look dodgy they will be. And steer clear of online loan brokers.

Have the bank declined the graduate loan then?

I'd try the employer again. Even if they don't have specific funds for relocation/graduates they may still be able to offer a salary advance. After all they are aware of where you live and that you have been unemployed.

Any items you could sell to raise some cash?

I know you've said that your family can't help out but would they consider taking out a loan in one of their names which you would then make the repayments on?

Have you approached your local Council? I understand Budgeting loans no longer exist, and that they took responsibility for some loans that you may be eligible for. Contact the benefits section perhaps?
  • DCFC79 I'm I not allowed to post something in two different boards?
Just trying to get as much help! Btw thanks guys! I may consider my parents getting a loan and linking that to my account and paying it back monthly

I don't think DCFC was having a go, just pointing out that it's on two boards so that anyone thinking of replying can see what information's been given elsewhere.

Hope you get something sorted out.

  • As I assume your biggest expense will be accommodation in or around London, have you considered contacting your new employer and seeing if a current employee put you up for the first couple of months (for a nominal amount). Far cheaper than renting and finding a deposit. Once you have a few paydays under your belt you could then look for your own place, having then got to know the area, plus through talking to workmates you would be in a better position to decide which areas would be best suited for your situation.

If this is an entry level position I would strongly suggest you do not ask your employer if ayone can put you up for a few months. I am a recruitment level manager and if someone came to me with that request I'd seriously doubt their judgement! A relocation loan is one thing, asking if you can impose on the personal life of a future colleague is another.

Do you have any old uni mates who live in London or the south east? Could you stay with them for a few weeks, or with a few of them for a week? Ask if your mates have any contacts who might have a spare room for a bit.

If your family could extend you the funds for a few months, you would be able to sort out a shared room (maybe not in the best area intially). Bear in mind that you will probably need to put down a month deposit as well as rent, so don't assume that you will be able to pay it back from your first salary - assume you will repay over 4-6 months at best.

Best of luck, London is a fabulous place to live and work!

I suspect the train tickets would cost more than rent?
