Help needed to relocate for employment

Hey guys I graduated from university in July and ever since I have been unemployed looking for work. I have been on the Jobseekers Allowance since November.

I have been offered a job however in London (I live in Doncaster) for a really good company. I start on the 19th Jan but however I do not get paid until the 23rd February. This means I will not be paid for 5 weeks and must fully fund it myself.

At first my family were going to help me but however due to recent events and circumstances this cannot happen. I tried getting a bank loan and graduate loan but it is difficult for me as I am currently unemployed and have been. I cannot receive any type of grant or loan from the Jobseekers too.

I have worked out after my monthly wage and expenses, I am left with over £600, more then comfortable to pay a loan off in agreed installments if that was the case. I have worked out also that I would need around £1400 to move to London and survive for the 5 weeks.

Doe's anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks guys!

Have you approached your current bank with evidence of the job offer to apply for a graduate loan? Did they say why you were not eligible?
Does the employer offer any relocation assistance? Or will they offer a loan to be repaid from wages?
In the short-term have you looked into how much commuting by train would cost, may be cheaper than moving and at least there are direct fast trains from Doncaster.

  • Some companies offer graduate funds but i'm afraid my company doesn't! And yes I have, I have given all the evidence and documents and a decision is going to be made tomorrow by the bank for the graduate loan. But like I say it may not be good because I haven't been working and this is my first job after University.

The commute from Doncaster would deifantly be too much! Talking 3-4 hours...:-(

Does anyone recommend a loan from a non high street bank? Like I say I only need 1500 and I can afford to pay back monthly. I understand my interest will obviously be higher but I guess that may be the best shout!?
    Cheers Guys

When I started my first job all I had was a letter of employment. My bank gave me a loan to cover the expenses of moving and getting place to rent etc.

If you don't have any negative credit problems and you've been with the bank a while I'd say you have a good chance.

Have you thought about getting a graduate bank account with an overdraft facility?

do you have a credit card or overdraft you can use ?

luckily when i relocated to London i had a credit card which i used. Althou it cost me closer to £3000. (deposit + first months rent + agent fees + moving costs)
  • I cannot get a credit or extend my overdraft. First things that I tried. I've been trying to look at loan companies online but they all seem so fake! Such a difficult position where an amazing opportunity in my life, so I dont want to make any bad life decisions.

Dont know much about them but Credit Union maybe can help?

AVOID PAYDAY LOANS. They kill credit history.
