Credit Checks from New Zealand

Options
Hi, I am about to emigrate to New Zealand, but am keeping my house here. I have the money for a deposit over there but was wondering what credit checks they do with the UK, would they just check the rating through my score here, my actual debt here or nothing as you start a new credit file there anyway.
Can anyone shed any light on this please. Cheers.

If you apply for credit in New Zealand the banks/financial institutions there will not be able to access your UK credit files.

They could, in theory, check if you have any CCJs in the last 6years at any UK address you give them. Or check if you have any record of insolvency in the UK.

  • Thanks Tixy, much appreciated. Have you experience of this or through friends? Just don't want to take all family with any risks to get a place.

    Cheers again
  • Have you considered opening an account with a UK branch of a NZ bank before you go? Might smooth the way.

  • Thanks that's a great idea.
