Npower Hometeam - no good in an emergency
I have had two occasions in as many months when my central heating boiler has stopped working with an error code that suggested an "ignition failure". Both times I have contacted Npower Hometeam for an engineer and been told one wasn't available for FOUR DAYS!
Rather than sit around freezing cold for 90+ hours I, with some help and guidance from a friend, took the front off the beast and re-set it many, many times. On both occasions, I managed to get it running again (one after three hours the other after an hour).
When the Npower engineers arrived, both times they were unable to do any diagnostics because I had "fixed" the boiler.
So, the intermittent fault will no doubt strike again, Npower will be unable to attend, I will get it re-set by myself or a third party, Npower will have a wasted call out....a viscous circle and false economy.
Npower, if you read this, can you have a look at the response times of your engineers and recruit additional ones to improve from FOUR DAYS to, say, 24 hours for a complete failure? Until then, your cover is a complete waste of money for both of us. Me, because I'm paying for a service that is of no use, you, because you are paying engineers to come and look at a boiler that someone else has fixed!
For anyone else out there, my advice, firstly don't mess around with your own boiler unless you, or a friend, knows what they are doing. And don't waste your money with Npower until they can show an improvement in response times (put the equivalent of the monthly subscription away and pay for independent engineers to come in when needed!).

I had to call them again two weeks ago. This time they sent an engineer within 24 hours. He, like the others, knew his stuff, replaced the PCB and all now looks to be ok.
Thank You!0
