I am completely baffled by this , which is happenign on my laptop.
For some reason I am unable to get any web pages. However, my data connections is OK. I can get email and I can ping web pages.
But when I try to load a web page in IE or in Firefox, it says it's opening the page but then noting happens.
I have turned off teh windows firewall and Norton and I still have the problem.
So somethign is blocking the data from where it enters my computer to when it is supposed to be displayed in the browser.
I am at my wit's end.
I have tried looking to open new ports (maybe 80 is blocked) but I cant' for the life of me find where to do that. I have Windows XP Pro.
Please help......! Thanks!

Just to add a little more info:
A am with Virgin
I connected it straight to the modem to see if it was a router problem but no, still doens't work. I have tried different locations in the house and the problem persists. It is only th elaptop (Toshiba Protege A200) that has this and the othe rcomputers on the home network are OK.I love it when a plan comes together :rotfl:0 -
Can't help but we are having the same problem so I will watch this thread with interest. In our case it's just some websites not all and we changed our router yesterday as our original failed.0

How have you "turned off" nortons? The only real way to get Nortons out of the way would be to uninstall it completely or it can actually lock the connection up completely. Have you tried safe mode with networking?
Also have you tried using IP addresses to browse sites instead of the www. url?0 -
Sounds like a DNS problem. What happens if you try http://216.239.59.147:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Sounds like a DNS Issue.
Try using a free DNS server to test there is a guide to setting one up here.

If it works you can either keep using these settings FOC or speak to your ISP0 -
Hi all
Just to let you know that after trying many things, it did turn out to be Norton's fault. I have uninstalled it completely and it all works fine. Of course that doesn't help virus wise and since I paid for it! Grumble. Will reinstall it again and see if it comes back. It may just have been a random coincidence of settings and drivers. Fingers crossed.I love it when a plan comes together :rotfl:0 -

LOL I thought this was funny. not only did it come straight after espresso's post in which I quoote "Sounds like a DNS Problem." BUT, you then gave a link to a web page with a domain name in instead of an ip address
hehe..
Good site though ^-^[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
