I realise this may not be the best place to post this query. Moderators please feel free to move.
Basically I want to know if it is legal to take batteries away from a battery recycling areas in say a supermarket?
I am involved in a competition and whilst doing well collecting from friends and family is great I do not have enough.
This is a not-for-profit contest, I just want to help others feel good about recycling.
Any suggestions?

If you remove them without permission I would say it's likely to be considered as theft.0

What sort of competition is it were you want old batteries ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Ask to speak the manager of the store, explain what you are doing and ask them, can't hurt - in both the local supermarkets I use the battery recycling tubs are always overflowing due to never seemingly being emptied.0

I would of thought once they had been placed in the tub they are then the property of the store and would be considered as theft if taken.0

I very much doubt that the store would allow waste to be removed by an unlicenced person, they could be opening themselves to prosecution by the local [STRIKE]nazis[/STRIKE] council.0

If its a recycling contest surely it defeats the purpose of the contest if you just go collecting wholesale from recycling collection points (as these would already be collected for recycling)0

This is the problem. Batteries have to be disposed of in a certain way. The Supermarket will be opening itself to risk if they let an unknown person take them away.0
