Ford Ka stop/start question

Hi,
I have bought a 2012 Ford Ka Edge, with stop/start.
I know the stop/start will only work when certain conditions are met etc, my question is a simple one...
is it turned on automatically on starting the engine or do you have to turn the dial?
sometimes on the digital instrument panel a message in red comes up " A off", when I turn the dial on the central panel, a yellow " A" is lit up where the red message shows.
confused...
thanks.

Page 11 in the car manual. If it's missing from your glovebox, then look online here.

Its always on - you can turn it off if you want by pressing the the button in the center console - I just leave mine on0 -
thanks both of you.
I have read the manual, but it doesn't explain what a flashing red "A OFF" on the digital panel means.
Does yours do this Tiexen?LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -

It may be (and this is a total guess, I've only driven VAG start-stops) that certain parameters to turn the system on and off haven't been met.
For example, incline, battery charge etc.0 -
Thanks,
ahh, so it could flash when its not functioning, and when it is,it doesn't display anything? thogh, it has never actually stopped the engine in the the few months I've had it.
urgh, am going to have to go to the F*rd garage and get it checked I suppose!LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -

On my wife's car the dash display says "Autostop deactivated" when the car is stopped but has decided that it is not appropriate to stop the engine.0 -
mmm, am thinking that is what is happening with mine (as it's a tiny KA it hasn't room to display full information:))LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0
