Moved house with same estate agent and lost £300

I lived in a house where I was paying £600 a month rent. The estate agent contacted me to say the owner would like to move back to their house and they would be willing to pay the first months rent if I found another house.

I found another house and the rent was paid by the old landlord. Everything seemed ok apart from my new direct debit was set up to come out on the 8th instead of the 26th. Because of this technically I would only have gotten 2 weeks worth of free rent. I thought "never mind owner paid my 1st month so fair on them to get the money back".

I found something I took from the old house that I shouldn't have and decided to take it straight to the house rather than through the estate agents and we were talking about it, they told me they didn't receive the money from the days when I moved out to when I had paid up till 6th - 26th.

So the estate agent has this money. If I had paid up to the 26th but moved in to another house and handed the keys back on the 6th should I receive this money back?

Did you get the offer in writing?

Do you actually pay your rent by direct debit or is it actually by standing order?

Yes but did you get the offer from LL1 to pay rent to LL2 in writing?

I would have to check the form to see exactly what was put but I'm positive it said they paid 8th till 8th and that I would hand old keys back on 8th.

Was this offer made in writing? Exact words please.

I found another house and the rent was paid by the old landlord.
So LL1 paid £X to LL2 to cover the 1st months rent yes?

Everything seemed ok apart from my new direct debitreally? or Standing Order? was set up to come out on the 8th instead of the 26th.
irrelevant. Was £X paid? And does £X = 1 months rent?

Because of this technically I would only have gotten 2 weeks worth of free rent.
See above - makes no sense.

So LL1 said he had not received your rent from his agent? Not your problem. Tell LL1 to contact his agent.

What date did your original tenancy end?
What date did your new tenancy start?
(never mind the date of the DD/SO)

Your dates are very confusing. You mention the 6th, the 8th, the 26th....

What is the significance of each of these dates?

I have rang the letting agency asking for a copy of the signed document. I am pretty sure that it states i start new contract on 8th December and finish the old one on the 8th December, however i had paid up until the 26th of December.

I checked my statement and it is a standing order.
