Thinking of getting this PC
http://www.littlewoods.com/rf/navigation/product.do?categoryId=6674246&spreadId=6567354&linkId=6567355
Would this include a wireless card do you think, as it doesn't say?
I have an AMD 3000 at the moment, would this Core 2 Duo E6420 be any better? ie quicker etc?
Anyone got this PC, and what do you think of it?

price looks right with a moniter put this is nearly the same with out monitor http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=15016&category_id=429&manufacturer_id=0&tid=92.jme7l.u7m and a good moniter for about £100 http://www.cclonline.com/product-categories.asp?category_id=40 it will be a lot better than a amd 64 3000, so far about £100 cheaper
you could always upgrade what you have AMD 4800 duel core for @£70
montherboard for @the same
and ram 2GB of good stuff for again the same ,
and a nvidia 8600 gt for again for the same @£70 and a new windows (vista)if you want for @£70 may be less
work out cheaper than a new full boxthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
That PC is *not* worth £800. Please don't waste your money on it!
To start with, on the page they say "There's a really powerful graphics card for advanced gaming." This is absolute rubbish. The 7300 (of any variety) is widely acknowledged to be a poor card, and this is a particularly poor specimen as it makes use of shared memory. Talk about misadvertising.
Have a look at the current cost of each of these components below if you were to buy them separately:
Core 2 Duo E6420: £115.00
2Gb DDR2 RAM: £50
320Gb hard drive: £45
19in widescreen LCD flat panel monitor with 8ms response rate: £120
18 DVD+/-RW double-layer. £20
512Mb shared (256mb local) nVidia GeForce 7300GS graphics: £32
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium: £64
Cheap case: £30
Keyboard & mouse: £10
Total if you were to buy those components: £422
Plus a PSU which would cost about £40, a motherboard for about £50, and a PCI wireless card which costs about £11 = still far less than the cost of that computer you're looking at.
Someone posted about an Aldi computer on offer for £399 earlier today, which is much better value than this one (though comes without the monitor - but even buying the monitor on top would only cost you around £520 - still a massive saving compared to this one), have a look at their website for more info. Dell can also do pretty decent deals.0 -
fuzzgun19, you don't say what you'll be using the PC for, & your budget.
Yep, the £399 Aldi/Medion PC is quite good (not for modernish games though), & Dell PCs are great value too. E.g. check out their value Vostro 200, & Dimension 530 ranges (change warranty to 1 year for the best price). You'll have to purchase a better graphics card (but not from them) if you want to play modernish games.
Yeah, I agree with the others about the Littlewoods PC being very poor value for the components. Lavendyr was quite generous with some of the components' prices. I realise they were more as an example & to show just how poor value it really is - anyway this is what I've come up with...
Arguably better 19" monitor for £90. The case+PSU won't be worth more than £40 & motherboard no more than £30. So grand total = ~£500 (L's estimate is £587). G0 -
Yeah, you're right, I was quite generous with some of them.
I looked up some of the parts at Scan, but didn't look too closely into PSU and motherboard. Also allowed a bit extra for the 19" monitor - you can get a decent one for under £100 these days.
